Los Angeles free Christmas and holiday assistance.
Salvation Army
There are several centers across Los Angeles County. They operate food pantries that may have holiday meals and groceries. Other Christmas programs can include the Angel Tree or Adopt a Family. The bottom line is that volunteers and case managers try to ensure every child has some type of gift (clothing or toys) to open around the Christmas season. So they provide free items to those that qualify. Call a center near you, or some of the main phone numbers are (323) 759-7681, (323) 263-7577, or (213) 387-7278.
Toys For Tots Foundation - US Marine Corps
Call 562-536-2253 or 626-398-0295.
The programs operates from several sites in the county. Gifts, clothing, and toys are collected from the public and distributed to individuals and organizations at Christmas time. Most of the items collected are for children under the age of 14 and they are provided to children from low income and unemployed families.
The New Image
provides toys, shoes, gift cards,
refreshments, and a visit with Santa, for
children of homeless and low-income families.
It is called a ‘store’ because the children are
allowed to ‘shop’ for their toys; however, all
items are FREE. Parents receive supermarket
gift cards so that they can purchase food for
the holidays as well. This year, the Christmas
store will be distributing over 10,000 toys and
over 1,600 pairs of shoes, and will serve more
than 1,600 children, from over 580 families.
Families are pre-qualified and invited by
appointment only. www.newimageshelter.org
